Il y a un an ou deux, j'avais vu les crochets Dyak en surfant sur le net. Ils avaient retenu mon attention par leur beauté. Par contre, le prix m'avait tout de suite refroidie. 25 $ pour un crochet, c'est au-dessus du prix moyen pour un crochet. Sans compter les frais d'envoi (ils sont fabriqués aux Etats-Unis), les frais d'importation en Europe et la TVA pour la Belgique... Bref, j'ai regardé ces magnifiques crochets et je me suis dit que j'avais déjà une collection de crochets tunisiens, certes aucun en aluminium anodisé, tous en bois.
One or two years ago, I came across crochet hooks designed by DyakCraft on the net. These hooks immediately caught my attention. They are beautiful. But I was also struck by the price. 25$ for one hook, that's above the average price for a hook. This is without counting shipment (these hooks are made in the USA), European import taxes and VAT for Belgium... I had a good look at these beautiful hooks and thought I already had a set of Tunisian hooks, not in anodized aluminium, true, all in wood.
Et puis j'y ai repensé. Je suis retournée sur le site du fabricant,
DyakCraft, et j'ai bien regardé les crochets. Ils ont une tête très particulière, pointue. Les finitions sont remarquables. De véritables outils de professionnels, pour des passionnés.
Et j'ai passé commande. Un set complet de 8 crochets tunisiens interchangeables avec la pochette, les cables, les butoirs.
Est-ce cher ? Oui. C'est un fameux budget. A mettre dans la catégorie "produits de luxe". Les Dyak me survivront sans l'ombre d'un doute. Un peu comme dans l'expression : "Les diamants sont éternels."
Il faut de la patience également. Comme les crochets sont fabriqués à la commande, il y a des délais. J'ai commandé mon set mi-juillet. Je l'ai reçu fin septembre.
I kept on thinking about these DyakCraft hooks. I had a look at the website again, DyakCraft. These hooks have a very special head. Their finishing is excellent. Fine tools for professionals and passionate about crochet.
So I ordered them. A complete set of 8 Tunisian crochet hooks with cables, stoppers and the case that goes with it all.
Is it expensive ? Yes, definitely. It's a big budget. To put in the category of "luxury items". The DyakCraft hooks will outlive me, no doubt. A bit like in the expression : "Diamonds are forever."
I had to be patient as well. Since hooks are made upon order, they are not sent out at once. I ordered them mid-July and I received them end of September.
Au final, je suis contente. Je fais du crochet tous les jours ou presque. J'accorde une grande importance aux fils que j'utilise, mais aussi aux crochets que je manipule. Les outils doivent être d'une qualité irréprochable.
Les crochets Dyak sont sans aucune aspérité. Le fil glisse de manière fluide, sans accroche. Par contre, les têtes sont tellement pointues qu'elles me blessent le bout des doigts... Cela m'a surpris. J'ai réalisé que je tenais mes crochets de telle façon que la tête vient buter contre mon index gauche à chaque point. J'ai comparé avec d'autres crochets et, de fait, sans y penser, j'utilise mon index comme repère. Je vais devoir changer ma façon de tenir les crochets.
In the end, I'm happy. My passion is crochet. I use my hooks almost every day. Selecting beautiful yarn is important. But it matters as much if not more to select fine tools as well.
Dyak hooks are well polished, without any roughness. Yarn smoothly glides on them. Extreme fluidity, that's how I would describe the feel. But... (there is a "but"), the hooks heads are so pointy and sharp that they hurt my fingertips... I was really surprised. I had never noticed before that each time I make a stitch, the hook head bumps on my left index. I compared with other hooks. Same thing. I'll have to change the way I hold my hooks.
