Les crochets avec câbles, c'est la liberté absolue au crochet tunisien. Essayez de faire un top down sans couture avec un crochet rigide... Bon, c'est possible en utilisant 3 ou 4 crochets rigides, mais pourquoi faire compliqué quand un crochet avec câble simplifie le processus.
Hooks with cables, that is total freedom in Tunisian crochet. Try to work a seamless top down sweater with a rigid hook... Ok, it's possible if you use 3 or 4 rigid hooks, but why make it complicated when a hook with a cable is the easy solution.
Il existe deux types de crochets avec câbles:
- les crochets munis d'un câble fixe (qui ne peut pas être désolidarisé du crochet)
- les crochets sur lesquels un câble peut être clipsé ou vissé (donc interchangeable)
There are 2 types of crochet hooks with cables:
- hooks with a fixed cable (that cannot be removed from the hook)
- hooks with a cable that you clip or screw (interchangeable)
Mécaniquement, les deux versions se valent. Il y a cependant deux ou trois petites choses dont il faut tenir compte.
Both types work fine. But a few things should be said about this.

Les câbles fixes ont l'avantage de rester bien en place sur le crochet.
Par contre, ils ont une longueur définitive que vous ne pouvez pas changer. Il est plus aisé de travailler avec un câble dont la longueur correspond à celle des rangs. Travailler des rangs de 50 points avec un câble de 2 mètres, franchement, ce n'est pas pratique.
Fixed cables have a big advantage: they remain... fixed to the hook.
On the other hand, you cannot change the length of the cable. It is easier to work with a cable the length of which matches with the row length of your project. Imagine working rows of 50 stitches with a cable that is 2 meters/80 inches long. Far-fetched example, but my point is: fixed cables may be too long for the project you want to work on... or

Pour et contre des câbles interchangeables / Pros and cons of interchangeable cables
Les câbles interchangeables ont des longueurs différentes et peuvent se fixer sur n'importe quel crochet. Donc le même crochet (disons de calibre 5 mm) peut être utilisé avec des câbles de différentes longueurs que l'on adapte en fonction du projet.
Petit souci: Les câbles interchangeables peuvent se séparer du crochet en cours d'ouvrage. Cela dépend des marques et de la façon de crocheter. Cela n'arrive pas tout le temps, mais cela arrive. Régulièrement, avec mes crochets KnitPro et DyakCraft interchangeables, en cours d'ouvrage, je dois resserrer le câble dans le crochet. J'ai pris l'habitude de vérifier le serrage du câble avant de commencer un nouveau rang aller de temps en temps. Ce n'est pas un problème en soi.
Interchangeable cables vary in length and can be added to any hook, whatever the size of the hook. Basically with the same hook you can start a project with a short cable and switch to a longer cable when your project grows in width.
Small issue to report: interchangeable cables can move off the hook while you are busy crocheting. Its depends on the quality of the set and the way you crochet. It does not happen all the time (far from it), but it happens. I use KnitPro and DyakCraft interchangeable sets and I have this habit to check now and then if the cable is still properly in place on my hook before starting a new row. Is it a problem? No.
